3 Powerful Internet Network Marketing Lead Generation Techniques

One of the most popular topics in network marketing today is how to generate leads on the Internet. This is certainly an important subject, because far more people are searching for business opportunities online than through any other medium.

While many network marketing companies are still teaching techniques that worked 15 years ago like attending endless opportunity meetings, the “three-foot rule” and making lists of all your friends and family, today’s top earners know better. Why use yesterday’s “harassment marketing” techniques when you can have an endless stream of highly interested prospects contacting you through the Internet?

How, you ask? In this article I will discuss what are currently the three most potent methods for building a network marketing business on the Internet.

Building Your MLM Online Through Blogging

A blog is simply a website where the author periodically posts very short articles about a given topic. Think of it as an online diary that you share with the world. There are blogs about almost every topic under the sun. If you have a favorite sports team, you probably visit a blog related to that team on a regular basis. If you enjoy politics, chances are you have identified a blog or two that regularly post short articles that you enjoy reading.

So what does this have to do with generating leads for your MLM business?

Plenty, it turns out. In our information-based society, people have discovered that if they are interested in something, they don’t have to be harassed by advertisements to learn more about a given topic. The reason is because there is SO MUCH free information available to them on the Internet that they have learned they can take the time to research a topic before they choose to purchase something or invest their time in something.

This means that if you want to attract people who would be interested in your network marketing business, starting a blog and writing about topics that these kinds of people would be interested in is a pretty smart strategy. The idea is to position yourself as a TRUSTED expert on a given subject. Done correctly, blogging can easily generate a consistent supply of highly qualified prospects for your network marketing business.

MLM Lead Generation Through Article Submissions

Writing and submitting articles is another terrific lead generation method. There are article directories that exist on the Internet (Google “article directory”) where you can submit your article for a very small amount of money, and they will promote it all over the Internet for you to thousands upon thousands of relevant websites all over the world.

How will this help you? Again, the idea here is to position yourself as a subject matter expert in order to attract a certain type of person to want to contact you to learn more about who you are and what you do.

The concept is that you are willing to give away some information for free (in your article) to help people. Your goal is for people to say, “Hey, that’s some pretty valuable information he (or she) just gave me in that article! I think this person knows what they’re talking about and I’d like to learn more from them.” If you can create some real value for your readers, they will trust you and want to learn more from you.

Believe it or not, you don’t have to be an accomplished author to have success with either article submissions or blogging as lead generation strategies. You just need to be consistent by continuing to write good content, and be yourself. Remember, people buy from people that they like and trust – so be a real person.

Social Media As An Internet Network Marketing Tool

Social media networks like Twitter and Facebook have become amazingly powerful lead generation tools for Internet-based network marketing.

To understand how social media could help you build your business, consider these recent statistics:

  • 65% of adults worldwide now use social media.
  • The average US Internet user spends 32 hours online every month.
  • In the first quarter of 2012, smartphone users spent 24 minutes per day using social media apps.

Just as with blogging and article submissions, the idea here is to position yourself as a subject matter expert about things that your ideal prospects care about. You don’t want to be talking about a specific network marketing company AT ALL (doing that repels your best prospects), but rather you want to consistently be sharing some ideas that have value for your audience.

As long as you’re consistently doing that, you can’t help but attract a larger and larger audience, and some of these people will reach out to you as the “go to” person when they get serious about building a business of their own.

Becoming An Expert At Online Lead Generation

If you’re serious about learning to become an expert at online lead generation for your business, you should first understand that this is an area that requires study just as any other worthwhile endeavor. In other words, it can and must be learned in order to produce positive results.

At the same time, you should realize that if your primary source of income is coming from your network marketing business, you should not “stop everything” to try to become an overnight expert at online lead generation. Approach this as if you were enrolling in a course at your local community college. Keep going with your normal income generating activities WHILE you learn these new skills.

Also, if you have an existing downline, consider NOT talking with them about what you are learning until after you have thoroughly perfected your new skills yourself. Most people don’t respond well to being sidetracked with new ideas without very clear direction. My suggestion would be that you learn to generate leads first, then share some of those leads with them. If they respond well to that, then perhaps you can talk with them about doing what you are doing for their team.

In my opinion, the best system for quickly and inexpensively learning how to generate network marketing leads online is Ann Sieg’s Renegade Network Marketer program. It’s about $68 for the entire system, but her step-by-step explanations and training are second to none.

In addition, the system includes an entire affiliate program (so that you can make money online even from those who may not choose to join your network marketing business), a full set of online marketing tools, tracking systems, reports and some of the most amazing training you’ll ever find on these topics:

Remember The Swan

Picture for moment a beautiful, bright white swan – gliding effortlessly across a motionless glass lake on a perfect day. The swan’s every move is elegant, serene and sophisticated.

Then watch as the camera dips below the surface of the water, and what do we see? We see the swan’s stubby little legs paddling furiously to take it from place to place.

Many of the recruiting prospects we talk with are much like the swan. They want you to think they have everything under control. They project an appearance that says, “I’m calm, cool and collected and I’ve got it made in the shade.” They may live in fancy houses, drive fancy cars and have “big, important jobs”.

But guess what?

For the vast majority of these prospects, underneath the surface their little legs are paddling like the dickens just to keep afloat!

Like most people, they know in their heart of hearts that if they stop working they stop getting paid.

That’s where you and your network marketing opportunity come in.

So don’t be intimidated and don’t flinch. Just remember the swan.

Why Burned Out Professionals Are Choosing Network Marketing

Many network marketers are too intimidated to approach professionals about joining their business. But they are EXACTLY who YOU should be targeting right now.

Why? Because more and more professionals are looking to network marketing as their ticket to exit the rat race.

Why Target Professionals?

Would you like to have an army of highly motivated, “get-it-done” types on your team? What would it mean to your business to have a team of career minded people that know exactly what they want their business to accomplish for them (and by when) and are accustomed to working long hours in pursuit of their life goals?

Why NOW Is Your Best Opportunity To Recruit Professionals

Here’s what’s happening in corporate America right now.

Job security is at an all time low. Companies are laying off many of their highest paid, most capable and experienced professionals. A weak economy combined with uncertainty about how the federal government will tax and regulate businesses are forcing employers to shrink their workforce.

Yesterday’s top talent is being systematically replaced by a never ending stream of young, inexperienced workers who are willing to work for far less. Most employers are dramatically scaling back or eliminating their pensions, retirement plans and health care benefits. As a result, the average job position today only lasts 4.5 years before the employee is cut loose and turned back to the ranks of the unemployed or underemployed.

More professionals are now finding themselves working two or more part-time jobs in an effort to make ends meet.

The Big Fat Lie That Keeps Being Told

Today’s professionals were lied to, and many are just now figuring it out.

They were told that if they would go into debt to obtain a college degree, some big company “out there” would give them a job with fully paid benefits for the next 40 years, then at age 65 they’d be able to retire comfortably with a pension, paid benefits and social security. It’s now been over two generations since this scenario was even remotely common, yet it’s still being preached in our educational institutions today.

You CAN and SHOULD focus on helping professionals build the stable financial future they originally set out to build. In today’s economy, a solid network marketing opportunity is their very best hope to accomplish this.

A Prediction

I predict that five short years from now, those networkers who have correctly identified and capitalized on this historic opportunity will have built some of the largest incomes in the history of network marketing. Those who ignore it will be left wondering what happened.

How To Attract Today’s Professionals to YOU

The Internet is by far the tool of choice in reaching today’s professionals. TIP: They are NOT looking for the kind of countless “harassment marketing” online ads you see used by the vast majority of MLM recruiters, touting this “hot” income opportunity or that “must have” product. They’ve seen them all before, and they actually repel the sharp prospects you seek.

What they actively search for are totally free, “no-strings-attached” educational information sites and content that truly provide a real value to the reader. You must learn become a subject matter expert they can trust, sharing free information that can help them finally get free of the corporate rat race – without directly marketing your opportunity or products.

This is by far the most effective approach to generating high quality recruiting leads for your MLM business on the Internet. This is because we have all learned that if we want to know about something, we can most likely find it for free on the Internet without being harassed if we are willing to look for it. You become a trusted advisor when you provide this service.

This is the kind of approach that today’s professionals respond to.

Never Hear NO From Your MLM Recruiting Prospects

Doug Firebaugh has long been one of my favorite network marketing trainers because he brings such passion to everything he does, and he is able to train on such a wide variety of MLM related topics.

Doug posted an excellent training on his blog about how to never get a “no” from your network marketing recruiting prospects. I have used this technique for many years myself, and it will help you to operate from a position of strength in your recruiting efforts.

As Doug highlights in his post, using this approach can have a dramatic effect on your business because your confidence level goes through the roof when you know you’re not going to get a “no”.

Here are some of Doug’s main tips on using this powerful approach:

  • Look past your prospect – focus on recruiting THROUGH them. Your mindset must be that you are NOT after THEM, but rather who they know that you can help, and they stand to gain in the process.
  • Seeing beyond your prospect is the key to this approach. Focus on who they know, like and have credibility with. Who are the sharpest people they know? If they were starting a company, who would they want on their board of directors?
  • Once you practice and master it, this is one of the most powerful tactics that will dramatically speed up your recruiting.

When you ask your prospect to refer you to people they know (rather than trying to recruit THEM into your MLM network marketing business), you will hear the word NO far, far less.

You can check out Doug’s original post here, and if you like what you see you may also be interested in visiting his Tools and Resources page for some of his training products.

MLM Recruiting Secrets: 5 Steps to Making Strong Prospects Snap to Attention

If you want to recruit strong people, your vision must be bigger than theirs or they won’t follow you through the recruiting process. After all, why should they?

Here are 5 simple steps to follow (and practice) to grab and hold the attention of strong potential recruits:

  • First, you control the conversation with questions about them. Begin by asking them what they perceive to be their greatest professional strengths. This gets them talking about themselves, but it also tells you how they see themselves (whether it’s true or not). Listen for what they pride themselves on and what they feel most confident about themselves.
  • Second, you establish your vision. Lay out your vision of what you are looking to accomplish with a team of the right leaders. Paint a word picture in full vivid color (keeping it brief). Make it grand, exciting and compelling.
  • Next, you set the expectations. Tell your prospect what kind of qualities you are looking for in a leader on your team. BE SURE to highlight some of the most desirable qualities you heard them use to describe themselves back in step #1 (but don’t use their exact words). If you do this correctly, the prospect will interrupt you and start selling YOU on why THEY are the person you’re looking for. Let them do it and don’t interrupt. Now they are putting themselves into your picture in their own mind.
  • Stroke their ego. Agree with them that it does appear “on the surface” that they have at least some of the qualities you are looking for. Do NOT, however, make the mistake of getting “too excited” at this point about what a great fit you think they are. Hold them a bit at arm’s length because of the next step.
  • Confront their potential weaknesses. This is a critical step not to leave off if they are to follow you. Now is when you raise a legitimate concern with them about why they may NOT be the person you’re looking for – and have THEM sell you on how they would overcome it (don’t you do it for them). If you listened carefully in step one, you should have been able to pick up on some legitimate potential obstacles that would need to be overcome in order for them to have success as a part of your team. These would be obstacles such as time, money, other people’s opinions, new skills to develop, fear, worry, lack of motivation to make a change, etc.

In summary, some major keys to remember in recruiting heavy hitters are:

  1. You control the conversation with questions about them.
  2. You establish your vision.
  3. You set the expectations.
  4. Stroke their ego, BUT…
  5. Always be ready to confront their potential weaknesses and – in the process – keep them selling YOU on why they are a good fit for your team.

Do Your MLM Prospects Want a Job Instead of a Business? Here’s What You Can Do About It

One of the most challenging and time consuming things about recruiting people into any network marketing opportunity is helping them understand the difference between owning their own business versus working in a traditional job.

When you talk with the “average” person about the idea of starting a home based business, most will respond with the same predictable fears and objections.

You’ve heard them all before:

  • “Why would I have to pay money for a job?”
  • “Thanks anyway, but I wouldn’t be interested in anything without a guaranteed salary.”
  • “I don’t have time for anything else because I’m too busy with my job.”

Why is this? It’s because most “average” people fail to understand why they would want to build a business of their own in the first place.

Spending your time having to convince people that what they really want is a business of their own can not only be frustrating, but extremely costly both in terms of your time and (perhaps more importantly) your attitude.

I remember early on in my network marketing career wanting to beat my head against a wall, wondering how I was ever going to get anywhere with my business when I was having to spend so much of my time talking with people who just didn’t get it!

There’s an old saying you’ve probably heard, and it really rings true in our business: “Man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.”

My Discovery

One day it finally dawned on me that the advice my upline had been giving me for years about “never pre-judge anyone” and “talk to everyone that comes within three feet of you” was all wrong. Dead wrong.

It happened almost by accident, but I discovered that when I presented my opportunity to professionals who already had some degree of success in business (even if it wasn’t their own business), most of those fears and objections just never came up.

By making the decision to attract experienced professionals, I found that most of the time I was talking with people who already knew they wanted to build something of their own one day – they just needed someone to come along with the right tools and systems to help them make the transition! I knew I could do that!

Your Timing Couldn’t Be Better

In today’s shrinking economy, there are more talented professionals who know deep down inside that they MUST build a business of their own than at an other time in our nation’s history. You have the ready-made opportunity they know they so desperately need, and all you need to do is position yourself properly for them to find YOU.

Those network marketers who learn to do this over the next 5 to 7 years will prosper beyond their wildest imaginations, while those who use yesterday’s worn out “harassment marketing” methods will wonder who moved their cheese.

Most Networkers Are REPELLING Their Prospects On The Internet

On the Internet today, there are countless ads, websites, tweets and posts promoting someone’s network marketing company or product. We have learned to ignore these and quickly say “no” or “I’ve heard this pitch before” every time we see them. Heck, the network marketing companies themselves even think they work.

In reality, all these “in-your-face” tactics do is repel people away from your product and opportunity. These techniques are called “harassment marketing”.

Learn To Attract Professionals to YOU

The opposite of this approach is “attraction marketing”. This is where you provide totally free, “no-strings-attached” educational information that truly gives a real value to your readers – who are people that are already familiar with and interested in learning more about some topic related to network marketing. You learn to find your “niche” and become a subject matter expert they can trust.

How To Attract Strong, Professional Prospects To Your MLM Business

At the age of eighteen, I was fortunate enough to be mentored by one of the best, most skilled recruiters in the country. He was the VP of Development for a franchise company that produced training and development programs for company employees. To find suitable franchisees, the company ran ads in the Wall Street Journal looking for recently downsized Fortune 100 senior executives (primarily CEO’s, CFO’s and SVP types) that were looking to start their own business in the corporate training industry.

My mentor trained me to be the very first person they spoke with. The idea was that if I thought they were truly a serious prospect and if they would take the action steps I instructed them to take (completing a “homework” exercise), then they MIGHT get the opportunity to speak with him.

Here I was, barely old enough to shave, rubbing elbows over the phone with some incredibly strong personalities and highly successful people, most of whom could write a check for the entire office building I was calling them from. I quickly learned that only STRENGTH attracts STRENGTH.

More to come…
